Biography - Dr. Alexander Eastman

Dr. Alexander Eastman is a trauma surgeon, surgical intensivist, and emergency medical services physician based in Dallas, Texas. He has spent more than twenty years caring for some of the most seriously injured patients in the region while also working closely with first responders and law enforcement teams.

A proud graduate of the University of Texas at Austin, Dr. Eastman completed the Plan II Honors Program before earning his medical degree with distinction from the George Washington University School of Medicine and Health Sciences. He later returned home to Texas to complete a Master of Public Health at the UT Health Science Center at Houston, along with a certificate in criminal justice from Austin Community College.

He trained in general surgery and completed fellowships in trauma, critical care, and emergency medical services at UT Southwestern Medical Center and Parkland Memorial Hospital. He is board-certified in general surgery, surgical critical care, and emergency medical services and holds an active Texas medical license.

Dr. Eastman has long been part of the trauma community in Dallas. He has practiced at Parkland Health, where he also served as the interim chief of the Rees-Jones Trauma Center, and at Medical City Healthcare. In addition to his clinical work, he teaches the next generation of physicians as an Associate Professor of Surgery at the Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences. He previously served on the faculty at UT Southwestern.

His commitment to public safety extends far beyond the hospital. Since 2004, Dr. Eastman has served with the Dallas Police Department, where he is now the Chief Medical Officer and holds the rank of Lieutenant. He also works as an assistant medical director for Dallas Fire-Rescue. In these roles, he focuses on supporting officers in the field, improving emergency responses, and strengthening the care people receive before they ever reach a hospital.

At the national level, Dr. Eastman has worked with the Department of Homeland Security’s Office of Health Security, where he provided medical oversight and guided federal efforts in emergency preparedness and protective medicine. He has also served on disaster-response teams for the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services and played a key role in advancing pre-hospital trauma education through the Prehospital Trauma Life Support program.

Dr. Eastman is a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons and an active member of several national trauma and public-safety organizations. His work reflects a long-standing interest in improving trauma systems, advancing resuscitation care, and promoting injury prevention as a public-health priority.

Respected across both the medical and first-responder communities, Dr. Eastman continues to split his time between the operating room, academic teaching, and supporting the men and women who respond to emergencies across Dallas and beyond.
